Artemis Extender (ver. 12.11.10.1)

posted May 14, 2012 14:02:21 by Hissatsu
Greetings!

This is an extension application for Artemis 1.65 (and should work for 1.66 as well)

It introduces hotkeys and new ways to control the game.
You can see a demonstration of some of its features here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFjbM5XYm9E

This program will allow you to:

- Control Jump Drive direction/heading from keyboard (do +/- 1/10/100), initiate/cancel/confirm jump, or set direction/heading by using mouse heading/distance from the ship
- Control weapons console's "Auto Beams", "Next/Previous Beam Frequency", "Ene to Torp/Torp to Ene" buttons from keyboard
- Control science console zoom and scan button from keyboard
- And more...

You can find instructions and latest version download links on the artemis wiki:

Lovely!

Any way to punch in a course at helm from the keyboard? Drives me a bit bonkers that we can only approximate courses on the nav wheel. And using the "steering" slider is a bit coarse as well.

I thought of that, but i decided not to do it, because this is way too big step away from Artemis's interface.

All i wanted to achieve with this program is to introduce hotkeys for different actions that are simple to do with touch screen, like clicking a button, but are awkward for mouse control. And i added ability to set course and distance using a mouse - because very similar option exists for ship's heading, so why not set jump heading the same way?

However, if more people want it, i will implement it of course.

Hissatsu Is there a hot that will allow the ship to go from warp 1 to 5 with one push of a button?

Erm... warp... five? Is there a warp five? I though there's four levels of warp and there are hotkeys there already for those?

Yep, no problem. Artemis has those by default. 1-4 takes you to the said warp, or takes you out of it to 100% impulse if you press it while in the said warp.

I would love a way to punch in a heading instead of using the nav wheel, though I am not sure the best way to do that...

@Hissatsu - Thanks for developing this piece of code. I will have to try it soon (working on putting together a custom controller, and this will be invaluable if I get that far). A couple of questions for you -
- I watched your teaser and have read the wiki page. Am I correct that the jump coordinate keys are three sets to set +/- 100 deg, 10 deg, 1 deg units?
- Could you/would you consider adding a "0 yaw" function - that is to say, re-center the maneuvering slider? I can't tell you how many times it's looked like the helmsman (me) was drunk at the stick because I couldn't stop the ship on the requested bearing.

I'm really looking forward to having a covered switch for "Initiate Jump"...hehehehe....

I'm getting a problem that the program cant access the engineeringSettings.dat file. I've run as an admin and it still can't find it for whatever I do. Help?

Hmm is the file tiself present in Artemis folder?

Yes the file is in the same place with the Artemis.exe in the folder. I've sent an email to the address on the wiki with more info, but it seems to get an error when it attempts to read it.

Please post all relevant information here. Strange that it cannot read the file even with admin rights... Where is your Artemis folder located (full path)?

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

The path is C:\Program Files (x86)\Artemis

File name: 'Sounds\found.wav'

Ah, so thats the problem. It seems to be missing the sounds. The program should come with Sounds folder with some .wav files in it. Are those files present in said folder in the folder with the extender?
