help new to the game

posted Feb 26, 2013 03:00:35 by steve.ankers
Hey everyone,

My crew and I got a look at this game at a LAN party we went to this past weekend, we loved it and brought the game. Unfortunately we don't live near each other, but I was looking on the FAQ and it said there was a way to play over the internet. I was wonder if someone could explain (in great detail) how to do so. I apologize in advanced if this is a noob question. Thank you.

Basically, one user has to be host. Let's say that is John. John is hosting the server so he most likely will be captain (doesn't have to be the situation of course, just works nicely since he'll have main).

Pre-game:
John needs to configure his internet/wireless routers for the game. John portforwards port 2010 to his computer. (If you need detailed info on this, email me and I'll hook you up.) John determines his WAN IP by going to whatismyip.org (e.g. 69.61.171.116), John remembers it.

John gets all of his crew members connected to a voice chat service, TeamSpeak, Mumble, Skype, Google Hangouts, etc.

John starts up Artemis and chooses "Start Server". Windows may ask john to allow access, John accepts.

John's crew members now get to take action. John's crew starts Artemis in Client mode. John's crew enters John's WAN IP address and selects Connect to Server. John should see connection chains populate under the server settings.

Once John's crew has taken their positions John starts the server and they all merrily kick some Kralien ass.

Note:
John can connect a client to his own computer, he just needs to use 'localhost' or '127.0.0.1' where he would normally put the server IP.

If that wasn't detailed enough, email me and I can answer any and all questions you have.
I'm also willing to train on different stations on the weekends if your crew needs it.

Alright man, do you know your router's IP, username, and password?

Basically we're needing access to your Firewall settings on the router.

If you don't know its IP, open command prompt and enter ipconfig

Past the readout for "Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection" if you're wired, or "Wirelesss Local Area Connection" if you're connected to a wifi router.

Additional question: Do you have a Belkin wireless router connected to another box (from your ISP), cause if that's the case we're going to need to port forward on both!

yep. what you'll do is this:

In the verizon modem, find your port forwarding and direct 2010 at your Belkin router.

Then, in your Belkin router, forward 2010 to the PC that is going to be hosting the server.

The general setup for port forwarding is

Name:
External Port:
Internal Port:
Internal Address:
TCP/UDP:

in our case we use:

-Verizon-
Name: [anything]
External Port: 2010
Internal Port: 2010
Internal Address: [IP]
TCP/UDP: TCP, Both if it's an option

-Belkin-
Name: [anything]
External Port: 2010
Internal Port: 2010
Internal Address: [server]
TCP/UDP: TCP, Both if it's an option
