Ideas for competitive Artemis game

Hi everyone!

I'm creating with some students a LAN-party, in which we will feature Artemis. The rest of the group though, that it would be great to have a competition on Artemis. I though, that there could be some kind of mission script for that, so I decided to ask the community for that. I'd be looking for a script that either supports multiple ships, or spawns wave after wave new enemies to destroy (as in survival campaign).

Any ideas?

EDIT: We will have 2 ready-to-play bridges and a big screen.

I'd say the best idea would be to have ship vs ship, because if you were to do wave/random spawning, you'd have to manually track your kills as Enemy deaths don't seemed to be tracked correctly in missions.

It would be very simple to set this up in Hissatsu's mission editor, just spawn the Artemis in E1, Intrepid will automatically spawn in A5, populate the rest of the sectors as you see fit, and go for it!

Pasketi, sounds like a nice plan, When is your event? I have an idea that I might be able to get ready in a few days, (with a bit of luck).

Lucas has the right idea. That is what Chaz had. Note, make sure you add anomalies. That way you can maintain energy levels. Or some stations.

And Charlie, the event is on April, do there's no hurry :)
Though I'm interested to hear your idea also.
And I like Lucas' idea... I just have to do some level designing :)

I'm gonna bump this topic right now... since the LAN party is tomorrow (5.4.-7.4.2013), and I have nothing yet...

So I'd need a little bit of help, and I hope you could provide it. I got no-one else to help me on this

I'm using the mission editor, but I'm having problems getting the 2 ships working. Intrepid likes to spawn in the wrong spot, but Artemis works...

Spawning Intrepid in the correct location is an art.

I believe the order is;
Disable ready to play on all consoles playing on the Artemis (only Intrepid is ready) then start the server, afterwards have the Artemis crew join.

Another method would be to have a timer set at mission start, and include an event:
If Intrepid exist &&
If timer finished
Then set object property position of Intrepid to x,y,z

Well... I got the mission working like you earlier mentioned: Set Artemis spawn to E5, Intrepid will spawn to A1/A2...

If you could do that second way for me, I'll see if it works better than mine ;) If it does, I'd appreciate it and the competition would run smoother. If you'd mine doing some level-design also... Mine is currently 3 stations/ship, loose astreoid-valley going from E1 to A5, Nebulas in the corners (E1 and A5, 1 anomaly/sector and a singularity in the middle (Also 5 space whales/side)

EDIT: Intrepid also might be spawning next to the first station... (?)

I honestly don't know the specifics on the second way. Chas always sets it up for us, haha. But tonight I'm going to try to set up an E1/A5 mission that will work somewhat like LoL.

Towers along paths (guard fleets), asteroid fields (jungle), nebulae with enemies, normal bases as inhibitors, and overpowered bases as nexus. Or something of the sort.

Well, here's something to work with. I have no way of testing how the PvP will work, but I can confirm all intended items are functional.

The gist:
Artemis and Intrepid Spawn on opposite sides of the sector.
The Majority of the sector is filled with a Asteroid/Nebula field with a Black Hole at it's center.
Each ship has 5 bases it can fall back to.
All bases except the Command Centers have defense systems, when an opposing player is within 1500meters a defense cannon spawns (this cannon launches drones as well as beams)
Defense cannons are actually Torgoth Goliaths spawn 5000m above the station.
Cannons withdraw once player is outside of 1500m range
When player is within Docking distance of an opponents base, the base saps 10% shields per 5 seconds
Due to scripting skills/flaws/limitations, cannons are not loyal, but will only spawn when the opposing player is near.
Two monsters exist on the map.
Various anomalies exist as well.
There are some random enemies. Nothing special.

Game ends when any of the following are destroyed:
Artemis
Intrepid
Artemis Command
Intrepid Command


Ummmm.... Can't think of anything else to say about it. It's pretty basic.

For starting the game, make sure neither team are readied up, start server, tell players to join. Just to make things fair.


Hope it's fun! Feel free to edit the mission to suit your needs.

Pasketi, sorry I didnt get back. I looked for your post and couldn't find but I did not have luck getting a symmetrical and "fair" setting. I did get a map but enemies would not behave. Anyway here is a little competitive thing I made a while back. You should check it out 1st and I think not let a team see the other as they play. This has a little skirmish that each team gets a point for each time they survive.

Great! I'm currently here setting up the Lan party area. I'll send a picture of the setup soon. I also thought of streaming the party, as well as artemis.
