Discuss the Torgoths

A Torgoth Warrior

From the Artemis Manual:

The Torgoth homeworld is a massive, rocky planet with relatively low density. Despite its colossal size the planet has lower gravity than Earth. This has yielded a spacefaring race with twice the height, four times the mass, and ten times the radiation resistance of a human.

Though they vaguely resemble bipedal elephants, Torgoth biology is closer to dinosaurs than any other Earth creature. The Torgoth are supreme in hand-to-hand combat, with the ability to kill a human by simply stepping on him.

As alien as the Torgoth are, their government is a representative democracy, much like the USFP.

Unfortunately, the Torgoth Parliament is currently dominated by warmongers. It is obvious to everyone in the galaxy – except the Torgoth citizens – that the warmongers in Parliament never intend to win any war. They simply keep the wars going so they can get re-elected over and over.

Torgoth ships are as massive as the Torgoth beings. The smallest Torgoth ship weighs almost twice as much as the largest TSN vessel. Nevertheless, high gee forces are deadly to Torgoth so their ships only make the most gentle maneuvers.

Torgoth enjoy slaughtering space whales for sport and will sometimes break off a pursuit to chase a whale. If a Torgoth slaughters a space whale, all Arvonians who witness the act will immediately withdraw from battle to report that their ally has committed an atrocity.

Due to its enormous size and low gravity, architecture on the
Torgoth homeworld uses buoyancy and anti-gravity.

Why moderate gravity hurts a Torgoth but high doses of radiation do not:

From a game play standpoint, there must be a reason why the Torgoth ships are so much larger and faster than those of the other alien races, yet they turn so slowly. Enormous creatures with hollow bones that don't tolerate high gee forces explaints it.

While the Torgoth homeworld has a crust similar to most rocky planets, its core contains very little iron. This means it has a low density and a weak magnetic field. Rocky planets with iron cores (like Earth) have magnetic fields that protect us from most solar radiation. But the surface of the Torgoth homeworld is bombarded by solar radiation all day long, so any life that evolved there has a relatively high tolerance for certain types of radiation.

"Damn the torpedoes! Four bells, Captain Drayton!"

(Likely actual words of Admiral David Farragut, USN, at the battle of Mobile Bay. Four bells was the signal for the engine room to make full steam ahead).

Love having a face to put with a name, these images go a long way in fleshing out the universe and have even sparked a few mission ideas.
Thank you for sharing!

HAHA Very nice.

Also mike I really do love what you have done the aliens. It adds a lot to know there culture and what they look like.

Is the high radiation resistance the reason for their excellent shields?

Captain, I'm glad you approve.

Taigia, the Torgoths have strong shields because they have ridiculously big ships to defend. In essence it is Torgoth philosophy to have a few large, tough ships instead of a zillion small, weak ships. But in actual combat you might observe a more subtle pattern to Torgoth deployment . . .

That does explain with they mostly supplement larger fleets composed primarily of Kralien and Arvonian vessels.
