Custom resolution?

posted Apr 16, 2013 08:23:57 by Roelosaurus
Hello fellow space-explorers,

Quick question: is there a line in a .ini file that can change the resolution to
something else than the preset resolutions?
I would like to get the max out of my screen-estate. :)

Edit: Adding that I want this in windowed mode,
so I can open multiple clients at one screen.

Assuming Full screen is not what you're wanting here?

The latest release supports full screen windowed, which works better than you might think. It doesn't change resolution, and uses whatever your desktop is set to, removing all menus and title bars.

1) Set desktop resolution to what you want.
2) Start Artemis in "Full Screen Windowed".
3) Profit!

Lawson i believe he's wanting to adjust the screen to take up a specific portion not the full screen

Indeed, what I mean is: how can I choose a custom resolution for a windowed screen.
I want to have to get 4 clients up on one screen,
since now I can only put up 2 non-overlapping screens of 800x600.

As far as I know Lawson, you can't. A possible software alternative would be to get something like VirtuaWin (http://virtuawin.sourceforge.net/)

This adds virtual desktops, like "Spaces" in OSX. Which would allow you to have multiple Desktops, where you could switch between them. This would be kind of similar to switching between consoles, but it would give you the option of putting two consoles on each virtual desktop. So you could view two screens at a time instead of 1, but have access to 4 total.

Or you could acquire a monitor that supports 1920x1080, you'd still have a little overlap but it would be manageable :)

I have a 1920x1080! I just want to get rid of the overlap if I have 4 screens up...

Gatchett. I actually prefer to just use multiple consuls long one window but I'm sure that personal preference. I'm guessing you're wanting to see all of the screens at once. I really don't like switching back and forth between them that way.

@Reolosaurus,

Try this: http://px2owffng8.tal.ki/20130108/screen-resolution-2221907/

I set up custom resolution sizes within the registry of my PC. Artemis looks to see what resolutions are available to the operating system and offers those choices for window sizes. This may work for you.

With your "4 screens", "1920x1080", and "rid of the overlap" requirements, based on a Windows 7 stock theme (this is a guess on my part), you would need to create a resolution no larger than 944 x 487 for each window to account for the window headers and border, as well as the application bar at the bottom of the screen. If you hide the application bar, the max resolution to create would be 944 x 502. Seems a bit tight though.

Hope this helps.
