I just installed Artemis for the first time (1.702) on Vista Business. Core2 Duo 2.33GHz and 1GB RAM. In installed DirectX 9. No mods or anything special. It crashes after I specify the screen resolution and window. There is a list of things happening and then I get a very uninformative message from the operating system saying that it stopped working. Any suggestions?

I looked through the old forum postings and tried making sure sound card is on (yes), tried moving it to c: (didn't help), tried Windows XP compatibility mode (didn't help). It's crashing after the message that it has loaded ENE_EliteB.dxs. This is a used computer I just got at the store so maybe there is something funky about it. I'm going to try to trade it in I guess.
I traded it out for a better used computer but still no go. Now it is a Core2 Duo 3GHz with Windows 7.
Q45/Q43 Express Chipset. I just updated the operating system and the video driver. DirectX 11 according to dxdiag. Here is the event log:
The fact that the same error is occurring on two different computers make me think its your installer. Try redownloading the installer and the update and performing a fresh install and see how that goes
I'm a dork! I was installing with the 1.702 update file without using the 1.7 installer first. I thought it was a full installer. You might want to dork-proof the updater by having it give an error message in case another dork tries to do this again. :P
