First time with a nearly full crew

Tonight was our first time with a nearly full crew (one called in sick). Our first mission at difficulty 3 was a bit of a mess the captain (me) maintains it was the fault of the helms man for flying us into a minefield, but perhaps the captain didn't get a chance to adequately communicate orders.

Lowering the difficulty helped (and switching captains happened at that time also). As our next mission was a successful struggle. We're hoping in a week or two to play with a full crew and maybe move off of difficulty 1.
