PS3 Controller - Helm or Others

posted May 16, 2013 03:52:35 by panthervfs
Aloha from from the pacific!

I was able to (finally) get my PS3 controller connected to my laptop and wanted to use it for Helm.

Getting the joysticks to cooperate was easy enough (left stick up/down impulse, right stick left/right controls turning); however, I wasn't able to map my buttons correctly.

As it stands, my PS3 controller has 19 buttons. I wanted to map the square, triangle, circle, and x buttons (respectively) to warp power. They are buttons 16, 13, 14, and 15 (again respectively). When I tried adding them in the controls.ini as follows it didn't work:

JOY_WARP_1 = UI_INPUT_JOY0_BUTT16 (originally BUTT0)
JOY_WARP_2 = UI_INPUT_JOY0_BUTT13
JOY_WARP_3 = UI_INPUT_JOY0_BUTT14
JOY_WARP_4 = UI_INPUT_JOY0_BUTT15

[edit]** I just did some toying and found that JOY0_BUTT only goes up to 7 :( **

And that's why I am here! Or at least why I am posting. Does anyone know if the JOY buttons only go so high?

Thank you everyone for your enthusiasm, ideas, and creativity to make this awesome game even better! I only that we are able to help Thom out as much as we can :)

Sorry to hear about the joy butt only going to 7, but i can see a decent amount of functionality if used to control engineering now that we have keyboard commands for adjusting the power/coolant levels.
