iOS: Zooming in on the long-range scan screen

I'm brand new to Artemis, and have just played my first few games in the last couple of days. We are using only iPads to play.

The one thing we can't figure out so far is how the science officer can zoom in on the long-range scan screen to select different ships in a group to scan them individually. What are we missing?
