New Uniform

posted Aug 28, 2012 21:07:28 by ScottDunphy
So I've noticed that in many of the Artemis YouTube videos the crews dress in Star Trek uniforms or something very close to that. And that got me thinking that there should be uniforms unique to Artemis. Nothing too elaborate, maybe something nearly everyone can make at home, and definitely something that could prominently feature the patches. Maybe even just vests or smocks that could fit over any standard attire (say a one-colored t-shirt) so you could have a set for whatever crew is available and whatever positions they want the play.

I don't know anything about costume design, but I thought I'd float these ideas and see if someone on here does.

there's no minimum order on most of the shirts

Nice design, but I'm looking for something more unique than that. More of a style than an emblem, if that makes sense. And I would definitely want to use the patches rather add a new image. I did some looking around at smocks and that got me thinking along some different lines. I'm gonna work something up in the next few weeeks and I'll post up the results if it turns out well.

EDIT: I definitely like the roles on the back - I'm stealing that!

maybe i misread your post, but i thought you wanted a one color t-shirt or something like that. there's also no reason you can't apply the artemis patches to the shirts yourself, but that's not something you can add with the online shirt designer. personally i like the little spiral galaxy on the chest and i'd put the artemis patch on the shoulder.

Interesting... However, I'd be remiss if I didn't say:

Hi, folks! Brian here, your friendly neighborhood community manager. :)

We're working with Marion Robertson, the lovely woman who made the Artemis patches, on a uniform design. We're definitely looking to have the idea be affordable, and still Science-Fiction-y enough to make us stand out in a crowd, and/or look good on a Youtube Video.

We definitely want to hear your ideas, however, so keep 'em coming!

Thanks!

Personally I'd like a nice, tight Next Generation spandex outfit. But I'm afraid some gamers don't wear spandex well. :-)

Obviously I'm also partial to leather jackets and Rayban Aviators. :-)
"Damn the torpedoes! Four bells, Captain Drayton!"

(Likely actual words of Admiral David Farragut, USN, at the battle of Mobile Bay. Four bells was the signal for the engine room to make full steam ahead).

I do not know if anyone else has done this yet but here goes. I have made a Rank Chart for the TSN with the collar Pips. Here is the Enlisted Rating will post the Officer Rating later today.

Here my idea on a uniform shirt. Using a Nurse uni-sex scrub top (11.95). and a turtleneck dickie (3.98).

Great design, Dwayne-- I'd consider putting the ranks on the dickie, but awesome nonetheless! Can you provide links to the places you sourced for the scrub and the dickie?

Kinda hoping Marion would make the rank and Starship Certification into patches.

Yesterday we used Star Trek short sleeve uniforms (they were from a Kellogs prize offer in 2009) and pulled them over what we were wearing. I think the ability to make large and pull over is critical here, be it a smock or the cool scrubs above.

Here's a smock/apron option that I think could work well and fit over almost anyone/any clothes

So far, i like what I see. My crew and I have been using Starfleet uniforms, and they have been working out ok, but we really are excited to get our own uniforms. I like the idea of the rank pips, but I have a suggestion: I don't know if this is what you had in mind, but the gold border and the blue background be sewn, but the pip itself be metal, like the starfleet pips. and can you make them pins, not patches? I think it would work out better. Also, great jobs with the the uniforms so far, I especially like the dickie/scrub combo, well done. One thing to add, though, is there anyway to do long sleeve on the shirts? Final note on the uniforms, and this is gonna sound odd, but bear with me. To go for an authentic "uniform" look, suggestions on footwear? I'm thinking my black military-style boots, but that might throw off the look of the scrubs. All I know is, sneakers will not look good with this. Other that, great job, guys! Keep up the good work.
